The Roeliff Jansen Community Library offers events for everyone | Local announcements

COPAKE – The Roeliff Jansen Community Library, 9091 Route 22, Hillsdale, offers the following programs in July and August. For information and registration, call the library at 518-325-4101.

The senior balance and strength class is offered from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Thursdays. Dr. Paul Spector leads the balance and strength course on Zoom. These classes introduce exercises that improve postural stability, core strength, body spatial awareness, sensory integration, agility and coordination. Farm Market Kids from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. Join Tia at the Hillsdale-Copake Farmer’s Market all summer through Labor Day weekend for stories and activities. Children will also have the opportunity to learn about the foods we grow and eat and win the chance to go shopping for themselves at the Farmers Market.

Lego Club on Thursday afternoons. Join us every Thursday for an afternoon filled with Legos and fun in the Kids Room. Check social media for weekly themes.

Dissertation writing group 5-7 p.m. first Thursdays. Do you have stories to write? Are you writing a memoir or have you thought about writing one? Do you want to pass on your stories to a wider audience or to your friends and family? Come join the Roe Jan Memoir group every month and share your story in a supportive and creative atmosphere and get inspired to keep writing. Whether you have reams of pages already written or just a hint of an idea, this is the perfect place to stretch your storytelling muscles, together. This group will meet on the first Thursday of each month starting June 2.

The Columbia County Climate Carnival will take place on July 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Can finding solutions to climate change be fun? This is possible if you make it a “carnival” for the community. The first Columbia County Climate Carnival will be held at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in Chatham. Free entry. The Columbia County Library Association will have a booth with information about how libraries help promote sustainability and activities for children. This is a Columbia County event, organized by the Climate Smart Communities Task Force and organized by a committee of volunteers in several towns across the county, from public and private organizations.

Roeliff Jansen Community Library Charity Golf Tournament starting at 8 a.m. on July 17. Support the Roe Jan Library while enjoying a day of golf at the Undermountain Golf Course. Includes jamming for 2 people; men, women and mixed; putting competition; and more. You don’t play golf? You can still enjoy a barbecue dinner. Trivia Night at Roe Jan Brewing at 6 p.m. on July 21. Join us for our second trivia night at the Roe Jan Brewery, this time themed from books to movies. Reserve a table by calling 518-303-8080.

Kris Jensen & Co. will perform at 3 p.m. on July 31. Join us for live music with local musician Kris Jensen. Savor the panoramic views from Roeliff Jansen Park while enjoying an afternoon of American jazz. Kris will be joined by Linda Ransom on vocals, Matt Dwonszyk on bass and special guest Larry Ham on piano. This concert will take place at the Hilltop Barn, Roe Jan Park, opposite the library. Garden chairs appreciated.

Summer Reading Finale: Storycrafters: Oceans of Possibilities 1-2 p.m. Aug. 6. Come celebrate the end of summer and all your fantastic reading well done with a storytime performance by Storycrafters. Enjoy folk tales filled with wonder and vagueness about the possibilities and potentials hidden in everyday life.

The Roe Jan Library Community Picnic will be held on August 14 from noon to 3 p.m. Come celebrate summer at the Roe Jan Library Community Picnic, with free food, games, music and a Birds of Prey program.
