Bennington Farmers’ Market celebrates local authors and books | Community News

BENNINGTON – The Bennington Farmers Market will for the first time focus on local authors with a special event taking place during the market on Saturday, with four fantastic local writers and illustrators on hand to share their works and sign copies of their books.

Presenting authors are Judith D. Schwartz, who tells stories to explore and illuminate scientific concepts and cultural nuances; poet Camille Guthrie; Anne Hunter, author and illustrator of children’s picture books; and fiction writer Genevieve Plunkett. Schwartz will read an excerpt from one of his books around 11 a.m. Authors’ books will be available for purchase and signature through the cooperation of local libraries and Bennington Bookstore.

“We wanted to use our local platform to expose clients to other facets of our community, and we thought local writers would be a great place to start,” said board chair Emily Gold. “There are so many talented authors in the region that it was difficult to decide who to contact. We hope it will be a huge success and that we can organize a similar event next year.

The Bennington Farmers Market is held every Saturday, rain or shine, until October 22. Proud to celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, the market is the region’s year-round grower’s market, allowing customers to purchase goods directly from the farmers and growers.
