Derby Block party planned at Radcliff | Local News

Several businesses in the north end of Radcliff are hosting a Kentucky Derby celebration on Saturday.

The Knox Boulevard Derby Block Party offers several activities at various businesses throughout the day starting at 8 a.m.

Organizer Pete Countryman said it was the first block party in the area. The goal, he said, is to reintroduce the community to Knox Boulevard in anticipation of Redmar’s proposed redevelopment.

“Businesses on Knox Boulevard strive to make their business district a destination point,” he said. “The biggest plea for small businesses in the North is continued innovation, creativity and promotion from the owners themselves.”

At the Gathering Bakery, the festivities include themed desserts and coffee as well as breakfast and other foods. The bakery also hosts a story hour with the Fairy Book Mother at 10 a.m. Free children’s books will be distributed by the Radcliff Literacy Project. Activities at this location are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At TF Games, a costumed Batman will be available for photos from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and The Healthy Living Lounge will be offering a special Derby drink called the Minty Derby Down.

Countryman said there are plans to include even more businesses along Knox Boulevard at future events, including a possible food rodeo with a variety of multicultural food trucks.
